So what is CASS?

CASS is a humble acronym for something that represents so much more. By name it is the Catholic Asian Students' Society but by nature it is neither exclusively Catholic, nor Asian and its network of brothers, sisters and friends extends to other universities and even past graduates. CASS offers an opportunity to pose questions and doubts and perhaps, to grow deeper in faith. It is a place in our uni lives where we are encouraged to consider God rather than dismiss him. In sync with the uni backdrop, there are also ripe opportunities to socialise!

FUN: CASS isn't just about praying, praying, reading the bible, spending hours on our knees. NO! It is also about having fun, pigging out on food at CASS events,  playing sport, singing songs, being stupid and not having to worry about being embarrassed cause everyone else is doing the same thing.

FAITH:  We cant be Catholics, or even Christians for that matter if we don't follow Christ and his teachings.  We base our teachings upon topics that people can relate to for example, the Importance of Family Life, Friendship, balance between work and play.

FREEDOM: ABSOLUTLY NOTHING is forced upon you. At CASS we don't force anyone to do anything they do not want to. Come to a few meetings, if you like it, then your welcome to stay, if you don't, we’re happy and grateful that you were brave enough to give it a try.

Friendship: This has been done till death, but friends made in CASS last a lifetime, no-one in CASS will ever turn their back to you, we’re always there to listen, and give support anytime. If you’re a bit shy, scared, stoned, don't worry, we at CASS  will take good care of you. We’re not judgmental, and not critical either, all opinions are accepted and discussed.

FASCINATING: Religion isn't all boring, it is actually quite interesting. For example, did you know that all living things have a soul, that plants and animals also ahve souls? Betchya didnt :D

Five GREAT UNI’s : By joining CASS you are getting access to people whom share the same faith or background, not only within our campus, but also across five of Sydney's great universities, Macquarie University(MQu), University of NSW(UNSW), University of Technology Sydney(UTS), Australian Catholic University(ACU) and Sydney Uni (USYD).

FANTASTIC: There is almost something always on for CASS members, whether it be an official CASS event, involving the whole CASS family, or just something casual and social, like movies, karaoke, bowling, ice-skating just to name a few. The newly formed music team also holds musical workshops, where u can pickup and learn how to play an instrument.

FUFILLING: CASS can also be a self-fulfilling way of helping others and “reaching out” into the community. Just a few examples include Vinnies soup kitchens, Nursinghome Visits, Vinnies Buddies days, and Bush.regeneration.

FOCUSED: CASS is an opportunity to take some time off Uni-work and focus on furthering our faith in knowledge through weekly faith sharings, spiritual workshops, retreats all under the spiritual guidance of our spiritual directors and helpers, which include Priests and Sisters.

FULL: Of people like yourself. We’re not a club, we’re a society. Many of us are just like you.

Presidents Proclamation:

I highly commend to you our humble catholic society, which aims to further faith, fun and friendship, during and even after our time at uni has ended. We have faith sharing’s every week, where we all share and discuss our views on our faith, giving opportunities to ask questions, guided by a Father, or Sister. There are social justice and community services available every week too, such as soup kitchen, nursing home visits and bush regeneration, so that we can practise what we preach. But its not all about Faith and Works, its also about Friendship, with casual events every week or fortnight, Karaoke, Dinners, Bowling, Movie Nights, spread out throughout the semester to give us an opportunity to chillax, and get to know one another better.

So this society will help you grow in faith, love, friendship and also give you an opportunity to take your mind of uni once in a while, for some good old fashioned fun! I do hope you will give our society a thorough try-out, and take advantage of everything we have to offer.
