So Who Are we?
The Catholic Asian Students' Society is no average society. Thanks to God's grace, we are today a large yet welcoming society spanning 5 universities, which continues to grow both in numbers, and in faith and love. With exciting, inspiring and meaningful activities all year round, we are beyond doubt that CASS will enrich your university life... if you are brave enough to embrace it!!

The Catholic Asian Students' Society was founded in 1991 by our dear Spiritual Director Sr Teresa Chiu. It is affiliated to the Pastoral Council, under the Australian Catholic Chinese Community (ACCC). From a humble beginning of around 40 members, it has grown today to over 300 strong, with independent branches at 5 different universities ~ UNSW (established 1992), USyd (1993), MQu (1994) and UTS (1995) ACU (2008)~ as well as Central, which serves a coordinating role in bringing the uni CASS branches together for activities.CBS (2003) stands for Catonese Bible Sharing and was set up to allow people to discuss their faith in language their are familiar with! As its name suggests, CASS primarily serves Catholic Asian students, althoght it embraces people from all religions and cultures. Far from thinking it to be destructive, we at CASS always believe that open friendly discussions on faith and cultural practices help us grow to understand ourselves and our beliefs more thoroughly.
As well as weekly on-campus Bible study at each university, CASS hosts a number of interuniversity events each year to unite together God's children from all over Sydney. These include the "Pray and Play" (a.k.a. the CASS welcoming picnic), the CASS Walkathon, the CASS Annual Retreat, the "Angel Cup" (a religious trivia that pits the uni branches against each other), the CASS Thanksgiving Mass and Annual Dinner, as well as seminars, community service activities, Christmas carolling each December, and branch-based Exam Masses at the conclusion of each semester. Please consult our CASS Calendar and our facebook page for more information regarding these.
And in CASS, the excitement does not end when you finish uni. Thanks to CASS' affiliation with the ACCC and the Catholic Graduate Community (CGC), CASS members are invited to continue their fellowship and spiritual growth with each other through Rosary gatherings, dinners and other activities even after they enter the workforce.
We are looking to expand soon to other campus's and other universities!
For more details, please do not hesitate to contact us! We are always delighted to hear from our members and potential members! |
